Delectable Treat

We recently attended the cocktail celebration of the opening of the new Mediterranean eatery The Hummus & Pita Co. located in Chelsea. This casual dining restaurant serves fresh, healthy, high quality Mediterranean food. Created by Jan Axelrod and run by her two sons David and Steve Pesso, this restaurant serves up flavors from places like Israel,Turkey,Syria and Morocco.
We were surprised at cozy classic décor as well as the impressive stone oven and extensive Mediterranean salad bar. What was the most impressive? The bread – baked pita is baked in a stone oven, and Laffa bread is baked in a or clay tandoor oven called a Taboon.
“Our team set out to create a Mediterranean eatery that delivers
delicious authentic flavors…With freshly baked breads, meats from our
taboon ovens, a wide variety of fresh vegetarian options and an
atmosphere that is truly comfortable, The Hummus & Pita Co. is built to share this amazing food with everyone.”
The soft, warm doughy pitas and the flaky Laffa were served straight
out of the stone and clay ovens on trays with bowls of creamy hummus,
tangy pickled cabbage, and crunchy Israeli salad. Hummus came in several
varieties that included traditional, Sundried Tomato and Jalapeno and
Cilantro. Red and white wine was also served to round out a truly
delectable meal.
Other items on the
The Hummus & Pita Co. menu
include a family Falafel recipe, specialty soups, a variety of Schnitzel
preparations, baked goods such as Bourekas – flaky phyllo stuffed with
cheese, potato or spinach, and handmade Baklava and Rugelach.
The Hummus & Pita Co is now opening; prices for
meals range from $6 – $12. The Hummus and Pita Co. and starting March
the eatery will offer catering services.
